Youn' Gie Biography

With over fifteen years experience in the music game, Youn’ Gie has been involved with Hip-Hop in Detroit for quite some time. Rapping since the age of 14, the 33 year old CEO,Artist, Barber by trade, Army Veteran & overall entrepreneur born Gary Felton Jr. has set his sites on success in the music business.

Currently juggling three different trades, Youn’ Gie still manages to find time to almost single handedly own & operate an independent recording label. “The label started off as Got Beats productions”, Gie says, “basically to showcase our producer & get his name fully established outside of Detroit”. But, after hearing [Area 51] the untitled album from the labels’ in-house producer "the whole game plan changed directions. I went from marketing J’Vaunte as a producer to thinking "everybody needs to hear this album!”

Starting the label itself has brought about some changes for the CEO. Having almost ten years under his belt as a well known Barber, & just weeks away from completion of his own album, Gie found himself in the office chair more & behind the barbers’ chair (& the mic) less. “I just got to a point where I realized that, even though I loved that game, I had to dedicate a lot of my time to the label. Gie still cuts hair part-time for his loyal customers. “I’ve always welcomed a challenge, & the business side of being involved with music was new to me”.

How much can one man conquer in just over a quarter of a lifetime? Only time will tell. Be on the lookout for the CEOs’ album Small Time Hustle , due for release in 2007.
